I can't say enough about the information contained in this book. While it would likely only be of interest to fans of local New England History, it is certainly a goldmine of data. I was so impressed with the book that I made a trip to the special collections library where Mary Thompson's original archives are kept. She must have been one busy woman - her dedication to gathering and consolidating historical records is beyond belief. Historians and genealogists rejoice - this little book is a must-have reference. It is written in a surprisingly clear and lively manner, even though it is written in an era when rambling, hard-to-follow copy was 'de rigeur'. If you grew up in Dover, or lived there a short time, you've probably formed some opinions about the town and its residents. Dover is Greentown, IL. Dover is Maycomb, Alabama, Dover is Castle Rock, ME. Dover is Derry, ME. This book traces the roots of of Dover and it's murderous history. Pennywise would have loved Dover.
Excellent resource for historians and genealogists. Limited to the initial larger geographical of Dover.
But still well worth it if you are a history buff. I own a print copy but having it on the , irregardless of the scan typos, is hugely valuable. You are able to do searches to find info about landmarks that Ms Thompson mentions throughout the book. Very valuable!
